It examines how governments, global treaties—such as the Budapest Convention and ICANN dispute policies—and private intermediaries define critical concepts like privacy, security, and free expression. In short, understanding these overlapping rules reveals who governs the digital space, determining what content is allowed, how user data is protected, and how information moves across networks worldwide.
This course was developed by the Internet Society (ISOC), a global nonprofit organization that promotes the open development, evolution, and use of the internet. ISOC works with communities, experts, and institutions around the world to support an internet that is open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy.
